今年3月时大众曾表示，将投资70亿欧元（约490亿人民币）在西班牙建一座电池厂，它在西班有两座电动汽车厂。后来由于有了新合作伙伴，投资额增加到100亿欧元。 大众CEO赫伯特·迪斯（Herbert Diess）表示：“西班牙是欧洲第二大汽车制造商基地，我们会在那里实现电动化，还会在那里建一座新电池厂，让两座工厂生产电动汽车。”他说大众的计划是打造完整的供应商生态系统，从锂的提取到电池组件生产。 按照大众的计划，2023年一季度电池厂就会开建，规模为40GWh，2026年开始批量生产。2030年之前电池厂将会聘请员工3000多人。 西班牙是仅次于德国的第二大欧洲汽车制造基地，上个月它启动招标程序，将提供30亿欧元贷款和赠款刺激电动汽车生产。大众及其西班牙子公司SEAT竞标。 为了刺激经济发展，缓解疫情影响，欧盟设立一个名为“经济转型及复兴策略计划”（PERTE）的项目。西班牙的电动汽车刺激计划大多属于该项目的一部分，它会在今年选出招标获胜者。 大众计划向萨贡托工厂投资30亿欧元，向另外四座SEAT工厂投资30亿欧元，10亿欧元投向潘普洛纳（Pamplona）工厂。
